Tailgate Yardsale?

What’s this with the sporting goods strewn about the parking lot? Gary and I set off for our first bike ride this Spring. He checked the bikes and inflated the tires before we left home. When we took the bikes off the rack at the Trailhead, his front tire was dead flat. Not to worry– we carry a spare inner tube and our car has an air pump.  Of course you have to unload every single item in the car to get to the air pump. There appears to be something left to learn about a car you’ve been driving for over 10 years. The air pump is very specific to this car’s tire connections. Perfect for filling the car tires , not so good on filling bike tires. Well, no air at all, really. However, Gary’s dogged persistence, beat-the-devil-out of it, force it into submission, make-it-work or else, attitude, triumphed. Along with creative and quite inventive swearing, the tire was inflated and we were on our way.

What a gorgeous day to ride the Brandywine Trail, all along the east branch of the river. We saw some kayaks on the river, usually this section has too little water but it’s been raining for about 10 days.

I’m lucky to have a beautiful rail trail so close to my home. It isn’t very long but will connect with hundreds of miles of circuit trails from greater Philadelphia, in Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania and crossing the Delaware River, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington and Mercer counties in New Jersey. That amazing!  The new Spring/Summer issue of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy magazine has a great article on the existing 300 miles and the planned trails in progress.

I had to jump off the bike frequently– I brake for wild flowers. I’m deliriously in love with jack-in-the-pulpits.

And of course, Mayapples. Humm… This photo could be a quilt. No, I promised myself, the next quilt can’t be white flowers. I really need to do a colorful flower.

I just hope the back didn’t conk him in the head in that process.

  2. It was a beautiful day for being outdoors. My youngest so took me to Longwood along with installing some blue toothy thing in my car and a personal sized coconut cake. Yum.
