A new day dawns in Ft Meyers, Florida and there are decisions to be made. Bike or kayak? We are on the 10th floor of the building and the sunrise is spectacular. Todays weather forecast, not so much. It really is a little too chilly and windy for biking or kayaking so the many trails and waterways of the beautiful Lovers Key State Park will have to wait.
I've never been to the Gulf coast of Florida before so a driving tour to get our bearings is the plan. Over the causeway to Sanibel Island with lunch on Captiva Island. I've been told that the beaches on both islands are terrific for shell hunting but it's so cold and windy no one, including me, is out searching sand or surf.
On the return trip, we visit the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Preserve and take the nature drive. Even these roseate spoon bills and white pelicans are huddled against the biting wind.
These ospreys had some nice real estate. A lovely, well built nest to the right and separate dining area on the tree to the left. We watched Mr. And Mrs. Osprey fly off and return with their fish dinners. Wonder if it was grouper? I had an excellent grilled grouper sandwich for lunch.
Gary managed to end the day playing 18 holes of golf. His theory is, on the golf course with 52 degrees in Florida, is better than on the golf course with 45 degrees in Kennett Square. It's all relative.
