My kids think it is hysterical that I go to the beach when it's way too cold to wear a bikini. Duh, that's the point! The only way I'd ever wear a bikini would be under layers of heavy winter clothes. But the brisk weather doesn't prevent a walk on the beach in Bethany, Delaware. Only four of the eight quilters could tear themselves away from sewing machines for a little exercise.
Michele is making this baby quilt from the cutest fabric.
Karen and Andra showing Karen's finished top made with Kaffe Fasset fabrics. We all drooled over the four patch shot cotton centers.
I wish I had taken more photos of projects but I was probably too busy eating or pouring wine. We each select a meal to prepare and I think we look forward to eating together as much as we do quilting. . The menu for this get-a-way included home made pizza, chili and cornbread casserole, turkey in mustard sauce with noodles, spinach lasagna and garlic bread. Chocolate chip cookies, lemon cake, tiramisu, double chocolate brownies. What? No M&M'S ? One year in a misguided attempt to control calories we decided to ban M&M'S. Every single one of us brought M&M'S. (We really don't take direction well…) Peanut, plain, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, almond, pretzel M&M'S— we had them all. Thankfully Peggy has decreed that there are no calories at quilt bee gatherings. The red wine is drunk to counter the effects of the dreaded quilters “lint lung.” Purely a preventative measure.
This is what I worked on.
I need 40 light blocks and 40 dark blocks. This is a stash busting scrap quilt from a pattern in Bonnie Hunter's book.
And another on-going project made from Malka Dubrowski fabrics.
In my quilt guild lecture, Inspired by Adventure, I always tell everyone my best sewing “hot tip.” When interviewing for BQF's (Best Quilting Friends) ask if they own vacation homes in wonderful places. Like the beach! If you are really lucky, you might be invited to a quilting get-a-way with a group of fantastic women and have a wonderful time, laughing, creating, eating and enjoying each others company. It's just the best time ever.
