Going on a Sewing Bender

The entire car is completely packed with sewing machines and fabric for at least several projects. I always say my very best sewing tip is to make friends with quilters that own vacation homes in wonderful places. You just might get lucky enough to go on a sewing bender!
This is Whitney Lake in the Pocono Mountains where my good friend Cheryl Lynch has a lakeside cabin. Cheryl is a very talented quilter, author and teacher and she does retreats for quilters in this fantastic location. Cheryl invited our group of five friends, fondly called the Quiltini’s, to sew for a few days, enjoy each other and recharge our creative energies. In addition to fabric, wine was involved…
And really wonderful meals. Cheryl made this grilled haloumi cheese and watermelon salad for lunch. It was even tastier than it looks!
Angela made these delicious spinach quiches from Michele Obama’s White House recipe. This is happening at my house very soon. I wish I could show a photo of the coconut cake Kelly made but before I could snap a picture, it was devoured.
We actually did more than eat and drink! We cut fabric and made up jelly rolls and fabric square packs for Calico Cutters Quilt Guild’s annual auction. Check out Kelly’s blog, Pinkadot Quilts, for much better photos of a fun retreat. I was too busy, ummm…working? and I can’t show a photo of my projects yet because they are all going to be gifts.
Absolutely at the top of the list of why I love quilting is the friends you make and keep. Thanks again Cheryl and all the Quiltini’s, you are the best!
