What a treat! Today we hiked along the shore of Namakanta Lake. We had a lovely break for lunch at a sand beach. Packs off, boots off and a cooling wade into the water which surprisingly was not as frigid as I was expecting. Gary had some luck with fishing but not looking like dinner is a possibility.
Our plan for today was to hike to the Wadleigh Sream Lean-to, about 8 miles. A lean-to, as they are called in Maine, is a three sided wooden shelter, usually located by a reliable water source. Sometimes there is a privy. When we arrived at the lean-to, it was already crowded with hikers and several were setting up tents near by. We decided to hike on for about a mile to where the guide book says there is a spring and look for enough level clearing to pitch our tents. Barely got the dinner cooked and eaten and into the tent when I heard a soft rain begin to fall. Darn. Rain complicates everything.
